I remember vividly the feeling of frustration when a CD player would malfunction and skip or stutter - that was my initial source of inspiration for this piece. As I was writing, I found myself caught in a mechanical, circular rhythm - almost a prisoner to it - and decided to build the piece around that idea. The creative process is mysterious, and ideas often seem to emerge out of nowhere. One image that arose while writing was that of a Buddha statue made of machine parts, which is what I now associate with this piece. Constantly moving but also not moving at all  and sitting perfectly still.
